The Maj. John A. Pickler Homestead is a historic house in Faulkton, SD. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The prairie Victorian was the home of Maj. John Pickler, a Civil War veteran who was influential in the transition of South Dakota from territory to statehood served in the U.S. Congress, and Alice Pickler, was involved in the Women's Suffrage movement. J. A. Pickler (b. Jan. 24, 1844, Salem, IN-d. June 13, 1910, Faulkton, SD) enlisted in the 3rd Iowa Cavalry Regiment during the American Civil War. A lawyer and politician he served in the Iowa House of Representatives. Pickler moved to the Dakota Territory and played a key role in introducing the territory's first bill to give women the right to vote.
